From the clouds descended a mass, a force, a being that felt nothing for the lives below it.

As it tore through mountains and cities, humanity found itself as a species to be completely hopeless for the first time in its existence. Extinction quickly neared.

It was in one singular instant that we realized we are all family. We are all of blood.

History

Of Blood is a cosmic death metal band from Chicago, Illinois. The group officially launched in November 2025, though its formation unfolded gradually over the course of that year.

The band began when drummer Artsiom and guitarist Sergi connected and started writing together. Vocalist Dylan discovered them online and joined soon after. Kevin came aboard to complete the current four-piece lineup on second guitar.

The name "Of Blood" stems from the belief that all living beings on this planet share a fundamental connection. As the band puts it: we are all of blood. The name also carries an undeniable brutality that fits the music.

Musical Style

Of Blood describes their sound as "cosmic death metal," a term that captures both the genre foundation and the thematic scope. The music operates on a scale larger than life, conjuring visions of annihilation by entities that hold no regard for life on Earth.

The band is deliberately resistant to easy comparison. Rather than modeling themselves after existing acts, they aim to bring a fresh perspective to extreme metal. From concept to execution, Of Blood prioritizes originality, actively avoiding the tired tropes that have calcified in the genre over decades.

There is also a conscious effort to write music that feels current. While rooted in the traditions of death metal, black metal, and doom, the band strives to create something that speaks to the present moment rather than rehashing the past.

Themes

On the surface, Of Blood's lyrics concern themselves with cosmic horror: giant space monsters, black holes, and entities beyond human comprehension descending upon a helpless Earth. But beneath this apocalyptic imagery lies something more pointed.

The band views their music as a response to the horrors of contemporary life. Corporate greed has corrupted governments. Wars rage across continents. Genocides unfold in real time. Innocent people are kidnapped from their communities. In a world where such evils have overtaken the zeitgeist, Of Blood channels these feelings into monsters of cosmic scale.

The music is not meant to inspire despair. Instead, Of Blood aims to convey courage, strength, and power in the face of tyranny.

By confronting annihilation in its grandest possible form, the songs become a kind of catharsis, a way of processing the weight of living under systems that seem designed to crush the individual.

Each song maintains its own identity while contributing to a cohesive whole. Recurring themes and motifs tie the material together, creating a body of work that rewards both individual listens and deeper engagement with the full catalog.

We are all of blood.
